In his 4th rehab appearance since returning from hip surgery, Brett Myers made a serious statement. He closed tonight in Lehigh Valley for the Iron Pigs, he pitched a 1-2-3 9th that included 2 strikeouts. He threw 19 pitches 11 of which were for strikes, his velocity sat in the low 90’s. With today being September 1st, the Phils are allowed to call up any member of the 40 man active roster, meaning Brett could be in the bullpen this week. Since Brett was placed on the disabled list early in the year he is playoff eligible, which in turn gives the Fightins’ much needed Lidge insurance. Now all we need is J.C. Romero back.
Side note: In their first roster move for Sept. 1st, the Phillies called up lefty Jack Tachsner from the Iron Pigs. The chances of him pitching in any important situation this month is incredibly limited so you can breath pretty easy on this as Jack collects dust in the pen.
