Pedro Martinez came up with the most impressive performance of his abbreviated season tonight in South Philly, as he out-dueled Giant ace Tim Lincecum. Martinez went 7 strong, striking out 9 while walking none. Pedro kept Giant hitters on their heels by using all of his pitches, including a plus changeup he used as his primary put away pitch. The lone blemish of Pedro’s evening came when Eugenio Velez greeted him with a leadoff homerun to begin the game. The Phillies offense was provided by a bomb from Jayson Werth early and a Ryan Howard rbi double with 2 outs in the 6th.
