Former Eagle and current free agent right tackle Jon Runyan was worked out by Birds brass this morning at the Novacare complex. Per the Daily News the work out “went well” however Runyan left town without a contract and is said to be on his way to Buffalo for another inspection.
During last season with the Eagles, Runyan suffered a knee injury which led to him having offseason microfracture surgery. He currently holds the second longest consecutive games started streak of any active player (Now that Favre is back) with 190 consecutive games. A feat that is almost unfathomable for an offensive lineman.
Runyan’s return might be for more then just a backup role as it was reported today that the supposedly healthy Shawn Andrews was held out of practice with a continuation of his back problems. The team did not comment on Runyan’s visit or Andrews absence from the field. Apparently getting his Michael Phelps on does not mean bulding chemistry with his teammates.
Should Andrews not return for opening day and Runyan not sign, we get to look forward to the match-up of third year tackle Winston Justice against four time pro-bowler Julius Peppers.
Things just keep getting better and better, right?
