To make room for Jeff Garcia on the active roster the Eagles announced this morning they have placed right tackle Shawn Andrews on injured reserve, effectively ending his season before it even began. Once thought of as the best young guard in football this will be the third season in which Andrews will miss the majority of action.
Even though his back was reported to have no structural damage and his psyche reported to be at an all time high, all Shawn contributed this year was a YouTube video and an attempt to make speaking in the third person sound cool.
Andrews season was not ended by a crushing blow or any violent contortion. Shawn “Mandrews” hurt his back during the first day of camp when he couldn’t finish a conditioning run. He returned for less than a week of practice and tapped out last Wednesday opening up the tackle spot to third year player Winston Justice who played well above expectations on Sunday.
Don’t be surprised if there is another cut to make room for another tackle (cough…Runyan..ehem) to be brought in to provide some depth on the o-line. Hank Baskett and Reggie Brown better keep their bags packed.
